WEST about 1/2 mile. The DoubleTree is across the street from the Red
Lobster. Turn LEFT onto Dogwood Road and go to the top of the hill.

Buyers and Sellers:
The swap meet is free to visitors. Sellers pay $15.00 for their first
table and $10.00 for each additional one. The facility will open at
6:30 AM for dealer set up. No sales will occur before 8 AM.

SARS Vendor Policy:
This event is held to advance the preservation of antique electronics
products and knowledge, and for the benefit of
antique radio and
electronics hobbyists. Vendor tables are made available to sellers of
such products, and are not made available for sellers with a preponderance
of other types of products.
Vendor Pre-Registration Option:
Sellers wishing
to reserve one or two tables in advance must send full payment no later than
February 6, 2010. Any vendor who does not pre-register before February
6
will be accommodated on a first-come, first-served basis on the day of the
Swap Meet. To pre-register, payment must be postmarked before
February 6, 2010. Sellers pay $15.00 for their first table and
$10.00 for each additional table. Enclose a note with your name, address,
telephone contact numbers and payment to:

Guest Speaker:
We
are honored to have Mr. John Jenkins as our guest speaker who will discuss
"Pre 1930 Radios and Communication". Mr. Jenkins is the author of
the new book, "Where Discovery Sparks Imagination: A
Pictorial History of Radio and Electricity " and is co-founder of the
American Museum of Radio and Electricity in
Bellingham, Washington. The website is

John will sign copies of his latest
book after his presentation. Copies of "Where Discovery Sparks Imagination: A
Pictorial History of Radio and Electricity " will be available
for $34.95 and all profits will go to the 501-C3 non-profit
American Museum of Radio and Electricity.
John Jenkins was born in
Bellingham, Washington,
and lived in the area until 1974, when he began his professional career as
an engineer with Hewlett
Packard Corporation. John worked for
Hewlett Packard for 12 years, where he held various technical and
marketing positions at the company. In 1986 he joined
Microsoft Corporation
and managed several organizations, most recently as General Manager of
Worldwide OEM Sales and Marketing. John retired from
Microsoft in February
2001 and now serves on several boards, including the
American Museum of Radio and Electricity, where he is President &
CEO. His interests include the
history of science and technology, electronic and computer related
technologies, and over 40 years as a collector of early radio and electrical
scientific apparatus. John's personal collection includes many one of a kind
items dating back to the 16th
century (see
www.sparkmuseum.com).
John is also a member of several professional associations
including the
Society for the History of Technology and the
History of Science Society,
and lectures and writes on technology related topics. He is the author of
two books: “Loud Talker – The Early History of Loudspeakers” and “Where
Discovery Sparks Imagination
– A Pictorial History of
Radio and Electricity.” In August, 2009, John was presented with the
prestigious “Houck Award for preservation” by the Antique Wireless
Association.
In his free time, John can be found in the mountains of the
Pacific Northwest, hiking with his dog Charlie.
Antique Radio Contest:
SARS will sponsor a contest featuring three Pre-1930 categories- Radios,
Speakers and Antennas. Roddy Pearce is the 2010 Contest Chairman and
will organize the event. The panel of judges includes John Jenkins,
our distinguished guest speaker, Tom Knutson, Paul Gargiullo and Roddy.
Factors such as presentation, condition and originality will weigh in the
judge's decisions. Be sure to bring along your best examples to win!
Auction: There are no buyer or
seller fees to participate in the auction. No more than 30 items or
lots will be accepted for the auction. Auction donations to SARS are
greatly appreciated.
Raffle:
A 50/50 raffle will be conducted to benefit the club. Tickets will be
sold for $1 each or eight tickets for $5. The raffle winner will keep
one-half of the total raffle pot.
